چکیده

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate olfactory, gustatory, and quality-of-life outcomes in patients who underwent endonasal transsphenoidal hypophysectomy. Methods In prospective study, the were assessed subjectively using Malay version sQOD-NS (short questionnaire olfactory disorders a negative statement) objectively culturally adapted Sniffin’ Sticks smell test taste preoperatively 3 months postoperatively. consists odor identification, discrimination, threshold tests. different sweet, salt, sour, bitter concentrations. Olfactory outcomes after endoscopic transsphenoidal pituitary surgery.

BACKGROUND Olfaction has been demonstrated to have a great impact on patients' lives. Transsphenoidal endoscopic pituitary surgery is associated with potentially significant damage to olfactory tissues, but to date this issue has been only poorly documented in the literature. STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort study comparing olfactory outcomes pre- and postpituitary surgery. METHOD Patients w...

Olfactory and sinonasal outcomes in endoscopic transsphenoidal skull-base surgery.

BACKGROUND Endoscopic anterior skull-base surgery has been previously suggested to cause a significant deterioration in olfactory function. Given the impact on quality of life, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of a unilateral middle-turbinate-sacrificing approach on olfactory function and sinonasal outcome. METHODS Prospective cohort study comparing olfactory and sinona...

Acromegaly and transsphenoidal hypophysectomy: a case report.

Anterior pituitary tumors account for nearly 18% of all intracranial tumors. Pituitary adenomas that cause hypersecretion of growth hormone lead to acromegaly in adults. Patients with acromegaly may present unique problems for the anesthetist because of the overgrowth of airway soft tissues; a difficult mask ventilation and challenging intubation can be expected. A careful preoperative assessme...

Olfactory functions after transsphenoidal pituitary surgery: endoscopic versus microscopic approach.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Olfactory disturbances could be observed following transsphenoidal pituitary surgeries. To our knowledge, no previous comparative studies on olfactory functions after transsphenoidal endoscopic and microscopic approaches have been performed. STUDY DESIGN Prospective study comparing olfactory functions between endoscopic and microscopic transsphenoidal pituitary surgery. ...

The pituitary mass after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy.

To understand the natural changes in the CT appearance of a pituitary mass after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy of a pituitary tumor, we obtained CT follow-up studies in 12 patients with pituitary adenoma. The heights of the pituitary masses on the coronal sections of each CT study were measured. It was found that the height of the pituitary mass did not return to normal immediately after the o...
